A house in Orjachovo, damaged by the floods, was repaired due to the donations made through Zaedno.bg

The house of Svetlin Angelov Ognjanov from Bulgarian town Orjachovo, damaged by the floods in the summer of 2006, was repaired due to the donations made through Zaedno.bg for the FloodAid Bulgaria campaign that is organised by Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.  

After the floods in the summer of 2006 the house of Svetlin Ognjanov in Orjachovo, located in the north of Bulgaria on Danube river, was wrecked and the bathroom which is an outer extension of the house was partly ruined and was completely unusable before the repair. The house had to be repaired urgently in order Svetlin Ognjanov to have normal living conditions during the winter season. 

The repair works started at the beginning of December 2006 and up to now the bathroom of the house is completely repaired and the two of the rooms are plastered.  

The repair works are done with materials at a total value of 310 Bulgarian leva that are purchased with the funds raised through Zaedno.bg. One tonne of cement, 50 kg of gypsum, 100 kg of lime, 2,540 tonnes of rubble and 4,680 tonnes of sand were bought and with them Svetlin Ognjanov repairs the house on his own with the help of relatives. 

Following the repair works that have been done up to now 1/2 tonne of cement, 60 kg of lime, 20 kg of gypsum, 1 tonne of sand and 1 tonne of rubble have remained unused. With these materials the cracks of the outer walls of the house and some of the inner walls will be repaired.  

We, the creators of Zaedno.bg, want to express our deep gratitude to the donors for the good will and the donations they made for FloodAid Bulgaria campaign! Due to these donations the repair of the house of Svetlin Ognjanov became possible. 

The floods are one of the biggest problems in Bulgaria during the last years and its solving requires a lot of time, efforts and resources. The fact that the floods are not already in the fore-parts of the news does not mean that the problem is solved. On the contrary. There are still a lot of people who live in wracked houses or in wagons and who gradually lose hope that they will receive help form somewhere, because after they went out of the news, it seems as we all forgot about these people in trouble. And many of them are already old and it is very hard for them to start their lives from the very beginning regarding as well the difficult economic conditions in Bulgaria.
